Lockheed Martin wins $52M contract

This CNNMoney article reports Lockheed Martin has received a $52.5 million contract to develop simulators to train U.S. Marines for insurgent attacks. From the article: "Using virtual reality trailers, a vehicle commander and a crew of up to five students will be shown simulated terrain and must carry out goals such as fuel resupply, patrol, logistics support or missions to find 'high value' enemy leaders.

Lockheed says the latest Combat Convoy Simulators improve the virtual reality and weapons of the Virtual Combat Convoy Trainer used by the U.S Army, Air Force and Marine Corps.

Lockheed said a statement that more than 85,000 members of the armed services have trained with the Virtual Combat Convoy Trainer since it was launched in 2004.

Jim Craig, vice president of the ground, maritime and civic section of Lockheed's simulator business said that convoy operations are a big target for insurgents and continue to a be a leading cause of causalities.

Lockheed Martin shares added 53 cents to $107.50 in afternoon trading."
