VR Development tools

Hi,
I'm a video game programmer and I would like to port my personal application into VR. I'm planning to buy the necessary hardware (HMD, tracking system, ...) soon. My question is about VR development tools. Is there good open source or cheap development framework I could use to develop VR software? Is porting a standard video game into VR is something not too difficult?
Thanks!

VR Juggler and DIVERSE

Hi __void__,

Personally I use VR Juggler. It's a powerful open source multi-platform virtual reality application development framework. Moreover, I think it works with most VR systems (CAVE, Immersadesk, HMD, ...) and with most tracking systems. The Programmer Guide includes a Porting to VR Juggler from GLUT section which could probably help you in porting your video game. The most demanding task will probably be to think about a new way of interacting inside your world: from mouse and keyboard TO head/hands tracking, VR gloves, wand, ...

An alternative framework is DIVERSE. I never used it personally, but I heard good things about it.

Hope this helps. Good luck in your project!

I have developped a basic

I have developped a basic but effective VR Engine for the French Railways that should go opensource soon. If you ask gently maybe they'll give a beta ;)

Thanks!

Thanks JA, VRJuggler looks great :)

Seb, it's a nice proposition, but I guess it will be easier to use a more active and mature framework. And no, I'm not more wealthy! Too bad...
